The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai, announced a large-scale deployment of a joint security force in Juba and its surrounding areas to improve security during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ruai said all illegal roadblocks and unauthorized tax collecting points along major roads and interstate routes have been destroyed in accordance with directives aimed at strengthening safety and security.
He underscored the SSPDF’s role as the primary security agency, emphasizing their partnership with other organized forces to guarantee that both South Sudanese locals and international nationals feel safe throughout this festive season.

“In coordination with other organized forces, SSPDF has finalized all necessary arrangements to bolster security for everyone during this festive season,” Ruai said.
Ruai revealed that all illegal roadblocks on important roadways, including the Juba-Nimule Highway, Juba-Bor Road, Juba-Keji Kejo Road, and Juba-Maridi Road, would be eliminated.
The SSPDF is placing Standby Forces around the designated main roads to stop the unlawful obstructions from resurfacing.
“This deployment is crucial for the implementation of security measures leading up to Christmas and New Year’s celebrations,” he stated.
The Joint Security Forces will begin operations in and around Juba on December 19, 2024, with a concentration on high-traffic locations, including marketplaces, transportation hubs, recreation centers, and religious sites.
Gen. Ruai detailed the security operations strategy, which includes both vehicle and foot patrols targeting identified sites with high criminal activity.He urged all citizens and visitors to cooperate with security forces to report any suspicious behavior, pointing out that “We want to ensure that the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are conducted in a peaceful and conducive environment.”
According to him, a battalion-sized force will be dispatched to restore order in Tombora County, Western Equatoria State.
He further extended wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to the people of South Sudan, reaffirming the SSPDF’s commitment to security and peace during this festive period.
