VP Igga officiates third edition of Juba Economic Forum

Vice President for Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga, opened the Third Juba Economic Forum on Thursday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and security to boost investment in South Sudan. Launched in 2023 by the Central Equatoria State Business Unions (CESBU), the forum seeks to drive national economic growth. Igga emphasized efforts to make the country attractive to both local and international investors.

“We are devoted to ensuring that both local entrepreneurs and international investors find this beloved country and friendly people a welcoming hub for investment Policies and reforms are being implemented to reduce barriers to improve our infrastructure and guarantee security for investment. These efforts do underline our commitment to sustainable economic growth and rapid sector development,” Dr. Igga said.

He stated that the economic forum demonstrates the joint determination to create a new economic trajectory for South Suan.

“This third edition of the Juba Economic Forum is a testament to our collective resolve to chart a new economic trajectory for South Sudan As we envisage in discussions and deliberations over the coming three days let us remain focused on actionable solutions,” he stated.

Josepine Lagu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, called on the government and partners to intensify efforts in enhancing South Sudan’s agricultural sector.

“We seize this moment to recommit ourselves to the development of our agriculture sector. Let us work together to promote commercial agriculture. Not just as a pathway to economic stability, but as a foundation for peace, for prosperity, and a brighter future for all South Sudanese.”  Said Lagu

However, Stephen Ladu, Minister of Trade and Mining for Central Equatoria State, who spoke on behalf of the governor, echoed Lagu’s call for multi-stakeholder participation in the Juba Economic Forum to devise innovative solutions for South Sudan’s economic stability.

“I would like to say to the multi-stakeholders, you continue to participate in such forum so that we build the economy of South Sudan to its fullest potential. Because South Sudan is gifted, is rich with abundant resources. And many people in South Sudan, they lack skills, capacity to exercise their ability to develop the economy of South Sudan,” he stressed.
