King News, 19th Sept 2024—The Ministry of Trade and Industry today announced that companies importing essential food commodities to South Sudan will now receive a letter of Credit (LCs). Letters of Credit are offered to traders to enable them to obtain hard currency to import goods to the country.
The Minister of Trade, Amb. Joseph Moun Majak said his docket is committed to ensure steady and accessible supply of essential food commodities for the citizens across the country.
“As we navigate this challenging time, our priority is to guarantee that all citizens have access to affordable and vital food products,” Majak said, “We are actively collaborating with the Ministry of Finance to expedite the issuance of Letters of Credit to facilitate the food imports,”
He added that this move will ensure that essential food items are imported efficiently and reach markets promptly.
“We will implement a robust system to trace prices of essential commodities and ensure that they remain fair and stable,” he noted.
The Minister said his priority is to guarantee that all citizens have access to affordable and friendly prices for food products. He mooted a plan to launch campaigns to sensitize the public to the measures taken and resources availed to control skyrocketing prices in markets.
Mr. Majak emphasised that he is aware of the challenges facing the citizens, adding that the government will address the nagging price headache.
“We are aware of the challenges many households are facing due to food shortage, and we want to assure you that the government is determined to address these issues head-on,” said Majak.
