King News , 03rd October 2024: The United States government has announced an additional 32 million dollar to cushion war victims in Sudan and refugees in South Sudan.
In a press statement extended to King News, the US Representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield declared the donation to assist needy who are staring at hardships.
“… announced on September 25 new humanitarian assistance funding for the Sudan crisis that includes $32 million for refugee response in South Sudan,” partly reads the statement.
She added that this brings total U.S. assistance to provide relief in South Sudan for people fleeing the conflict in Sudan to over $105 million in fiscal year 2024.
“Total U.S. humanitarian assistance in South Sudan, including for South Sudanese people in need, was over $640 million during the same period,” Ms. Greenfield noted.
US representative urged the government to contribute more resources to humanitarian response.
“We again urge South Sudan’s transitional government to contribute more financial resources to humanitarian response as well as other public services, and to reduce the costs and risks faced by those seeking to help the South Sudanese people,”
South Sudan faces deep humanitarian crises, compounded by the returnees and refugees’ influx from the Sudan conflict.
Conflict, insecurity, prolonged flooding, heatwaves, and the destabilizing impact of the Sudan conflict on South Sudan’s economy are rapidly exacerbating vulnerabilities, especially among children.
