The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied groups have officially formed a new governing coalition, naming RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, aka Hemedti, as leader, with rebel chief Abdelaziz al-Hilu as his deputy.
The announcement came during a press conference in Nyala, South Darfur, on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward establishing a parallel government in RSF-controlled regions amid ongoing conflict with Sudan’s military.
The alliance, called “Tasis” (meaning Founding), was initially unveiled in February after the RSF, al-Hilu’s Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), and several political and civil factions signed a charter in Nairobi.
However, internal disagreements delayed its official launch until now.
Spokesperson Alaa al-Din Nuqud revealed that the group had ratified its founding charter and formed a 31-member leadership council.
Besides Hemedti and al-Hilu, Makin Hamid Tirab was appointed as rapporteur.
Nuqud emphasized the alliance’s mission to dismantle the “old Sudan” system, which they describe as corrupt and failing, and called on supporters to help build a new nation.
