The Kakuwa Community has successfully concluded a landmark two-day peace mission in Yei Town, bringing together youth, leaders, and stakeholders in a unified call for peace and social cohesion.
Dubbed a “twin peace mission,” the initiative combined a Youth for Peace Conference with the formal introduction of the Kakuwa Community executive leadership to grassroots members. The event aimed to empower young people as champions of stability while strengthening the relationship between community leadership and citizens.
The mission focused on mobilizing youth to take an active role in peacebuilding and improving their livelihoods. Participants were encouraged to work collectively toward stability not only within the Kakuwa Community but also across neighboring areas, including Morobo County and Lainya County.
Organizers emphasized that sustainable peace depends on youth leadership, collaboration, and inclusive dialogue.
The conference drew a large and diverse audience, with invitations extended to all communities in Yei River County. The gathering highlighted a shared commitment to peaceful coexistence and regional stability.

A key outcome of the event was the signing of a comprehensive Peace Resolution and Communique. The document, endorsed by youth representatives, elders, and the Kakuwa Community leadership, formalized a collective pledge to uphold peace in the region.
The Chairperson of the Kakuwa Community expressed gratitude to participants, stakeholders, and government representatives for their support, emphasizing the importance of unity in building a progressive and cohesive society.
The event was officially closed with remarks on behalf of the Governor of Central Equatoria State, delivered by the Commissioner of Yei River County. The Governor’s representative commended the initiative and recommended that the peace conference be institutionalized as an annual event.
He also proposed that future editions rotate across the three administrative counties where the Kakuwa Community resides, ensuring broader outreach and participation.
Participants, particularly youth, left the conference with renewed motivation and a strong commitment to rebuilding their lives and contributing to peace and development in their communities.
The twin peace mission marks a significant step toward strengthening unity, fostering dialogue, and promoting long-term stability in the greater Yei region.
