The government of Central Equatoria, through its State Ministry of Information and Communication, has condemned the “horrific massacre” of 19 people on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Armed men, described as “unknown assailants,” killed 10 youths in Wonduruba Administrative Payam and 9 others in Kulipapa (Jebel Iraq) in Juba County.
The Minister of Peace Building, who doubles as the Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Gerald David, described the incident as “an absurd act of violence and cowardice targeting of innocent civilians,” the letter reads
“The Government of Central Equatoria expresses its deepest sorrow and condemnation over the horrific massacre. This heinous act which occurred is a grave violation of rights and a threat to peace and stability of the people of Central Equatoria State and South Sudan as a whole and will not go unabated,”
According to the statement, the attackers shot at “an armed youth” while some were hacked to death by machetes.
“The Central Equatoria State Government under the leadership of the Governor, H.E Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, expresses his deepest condolence to the families of the victims. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire people of Wonduruba, Kulipapa, and the State as it grieves this profound loss. Equally, the state government reaffirms its commitment to ensuring peaceful and secure conditions for all its citizens, warranting that violence in any form will not be tolerated,” he added
The State government assures the public and families of the victims that it will work with the security forces to investigate the incident and bring “the culprit” to book.

According to several media sources, the incident in Wonduruba followed the governor of Central Equatoria’s visit and departure from the area. King News couldn’t independently verify the accuracy of the information.
