Comboni Missionary to rebuild destroyed church-owned schools in Leer

Comboni Missionary is set to rehabilitate destroyed church-owned school structures in Leer County of Unity State.

Father Mario Pellegrino, one of the Comboni missionaries’ priests says they will also build a nursery school in Leer town.

Comboni priests deserted the area after war broke out about 10 years ago.

According to the clerics, activities at the church had stopped, and the technical school was looted and vandalized during the war.

Due to the return of stability to the country, the missioners are reconsidering returning to the area and rehabilitating the destroyed church-owned structures.

One of the priests, Fr Mario Pellegrino says since stability has returned in the area, the Church will also set up a nursery and secondary schools.

He expressed the commitment of the Catholic Church to providing capacity development for the local population through education and other activities.

“The missionaries in Leer have been very much committed in the past in the field of education through the nursery school,” said Fr Mario.

“Everything was stopped because of the war that took many years. The Vocational raining Center was practically destroyed, and now we are trying to restart the activities,” he said.

“We plan that next year, God willing, we would like to reopen the nursery school. If God wills, we would like to open a Secondary school”.
