Celebrated Ugandan music icon Dr. Jose Chameleone has announced plans to establish a School of Creative Music and Arts in Western Equatoria State, South Sudan. The announcement came during the country’s 14th Independence Day celebrations held at Yambio Freedom Square on Wednesday, July 9.

Born Joseph Mayanja, the artist received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the people of Western Equatoria. His appearance at the event not only entertained the crowds but also brought a message of hope and development.

Speaking to the audience, Dr. Chameleone revealed that he had formally requested land from the state government to begin the ambitious project. “I spoke to the acting governor and expressed my wish to contribute to the social development of this region,” he said. “I asked for a small piece of land to build a school for creative music and arts right here in Western Equatoria.”

The initiative, he explained, aims to nurture and professionalize musical and artistic talent among South Sudanese youth. “To my dear friends, the youth, talented individuals, and musicians I want to bring this school here for you. We need professional musicians in Western Equatoria,” he declared.

In his remarks, Dr. Chameleone urged the youth to take full advantage of the current peace and stability in South Sudan, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and develop their talents. He also honored the country’s fallen heroes and emphasized the importance of safeguarding the nation’s hard-won peace for future generations.
