Kalisto’s arrest on March 30, 2024, ignited controversy and drew condemnation from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, which deemed it arbitrary.

Additionally, his detention sparked widespread criticism from lawmakers, civil society groups, and international organizations, including the U.S. Embassy.
