The Ambassador of Israel to South Sudan, Gershon Kedar, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s development through life-saving medical aid and forward-looking educational programs.
Kedar made this statement on Thursday after delivering a message from Israeli President Isaac Herzog to President Salva Kiir in honor of the country’s 14th Independence Day.
The visit also served to highlight the growing partnership between the two nations, anchored in tangible, impactful initiatives.
Kedar announced the forthcoming launch of a free cardiac surgery clinic at Juba’s Al Sabah Children’s Hospital, led by the Israeli NGO Save a Child’s Heart.
The clinic will provide critical care to children with heart defects, marking a significant advancement for a healthcare system currently challenged by limited access to specialized pediatric services.
He underscored Israel’s readiness to support South Sudan not only through diplomatic channels but also via sustained, meaningful assistance.
The ambassador further spotlighted Israel’s investment in South Sudan’s human capital through a STEM education program at the University of Juba.
Designed to inspire high school students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the initiative aims to equip South Sudanese youth with the skills necessary to drive the country’s future growth.
However, Kiir commended Israel’s ongoing support, describing these new initiatives as “critical building blocks” for a stronger and more resilient South Sudan.
