South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Wednesday reiterated his administration’s dedication to modernizing Juba International Airport, highlighting its vital role in strengthening the country’s air transport sector and supporting economic development.

The President’s remarks followed a briefing from John Woja Elinana, the newly appointed Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA). Elinana presented a progress report detailing recent strides in civil aviation, including improvements in airport safety, security, and access control.

“These are critical milestones for the aviation industry,” Elinana said, noting that the upgrades are part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing governance and operational efficiency across the sector.

He further emphasized that the SSCAA is actively collaborating with key stakeholders to align South Sudan’s air transport systems with international standards. The goal, he said, is to prepare the country for greater regional and global connectivity, while also attracting increased investment.

“This comprehensive approach not only strengthens safety and service quality,” Elinana explained, “but also positions South Sudan as a more appealing destination for foreign investors.”

The modernization of Juba International Airport is seen as a strategic step toward unlocking the nation’s economic potential and boosting its integration into the global aviation network.
