President Salva Kiir has instructed the leadership of Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA) to strengthen border security as part of a broader push to stabilize the region.

The directive comes during a briefing at the State House on Tuesday, where Chief Administrator Stephano Wieu Mialek updated Kiir on the area’s current security landscape.

Kiir emphasized that securing the region is essential for enabling local communities to concentrate on farming, which he described as a cornerstone for food self-sufficiency and economic resilience.

He highlighted that improving security will not only support livelihoods but also reduce reliance on imported food.

Praising the efforts of the RAA leadership, the head of the state urged continued focus on strengthening governance and fostering peaceful coexistence with neighboring areas.

He stressed that lasting peace, unity, and development must be the shared goal of all stakeholders.

While Mialek reported relative calm within Ruweng, he cautioned against persistent threats from armed militias operating along its borders.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting strategic security and development initiatives and expressed appreciation for the President’s ongoing guidance and support.
