President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged the newly sworn-in government officials to dedicate themselves to alleviating the hardships faced by South Sudanese citizens, calling on them to focus on effective service delivery and address the nation’s urgent social and economic challenges.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the State House in Juba on Wednesday, Kiir emphasized the need for renewed commitment and proactive leadership, urging officials to “work around the clock” to improve conditions for the population.
He tasked the officials with boosting service delivery and tackling the social and economic pressures affecting citizens, warning that the public expects tangible impact from the new appointments.
Among those sworn in are Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga; Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Ambassador Monica Achol Abel Aguek; Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Constitutional Affairs; Ateny Wek Ateny, Minister of Information; Peter Lam Both, Minister of Roads and Bridges; Mabior Garang, Minister of Environment and Forestry; Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria State; and Gen. Chawul Lom, Inspector General of Police.
The head of state entrusted the newly appointed Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Ambassador Monica Achol Abel Aguek, with strengthening diplomatic ties and advancing South Sudan’s national interests abroad.
He also directed the Minister of Constitutional Affairs, Michael Makuei Lueth, to prioritize reforms in the justice sector, stressing the urgency of addressing the backlog of cases and improving judicial efficiency.
“You must address the backlog of cases in the judiciary and work toward improving the delivery of justice to our people,” Kiir emphasized.
On security, Kiir instructed Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria State, to enhance safety across the state, describing security as vital to protecting citizens and their property.
He further expressed optimism that the newly sworn-in officials will inject fresh energy into the administration’s efforts to restore public confidence and improve conditions nationwide.
