Machar, Adler discuss the status of peace implementation

King News September 12th Juba – The First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, on Wednesday met with the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael Adler, to discuss the progress of the implementation of the peace agreement.

Machar updated Adler on the 2018 Peace Agreement, outlining significant progress made thus far as well as the ongoing obstacles preventing its full implementation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the difficulties encountered by aid agencies and humanitarian workers operating in the country.

Machar reiterated the SPLM-IO’s stance regarding the Tumaini Initiative.

The duo also discussed various issues, including the status of the Tumaini Initiative and the broader humanitarian conditions facing the country.

Machar further commended USAID for its humanitarian assistance to the South Sudanese people.

However, Adler drew attention to the growing humanitarian needs in South Sudan, emphasizing that bringing about peace is essential to meeting those needs and halting the situation from getting worse.

He appealed to the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement for the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) to hold leadership dialogues in order to figure out an approach towards establishing long-term, sustainable peace in the country.
