The leader of the People’s Liberal Party and head of the Other Political Parties (OPP), Peter Mayen Majongdit, has criticized the appointment of Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro as Secretary-General of the new High-Level Ad Hoc Committee tasked with implementing the R-ARCSS, calling for his immediate removal from the committee structure.

Addressing a press conference in Juba on Friday, Majongdit dismissed Dr. Elia’s political legitimacy under the peace agreement, arguing that he’s one of the peace spoilers abrogating the smooth implementation of the peace deal.

“Martin Elia is not a principal in this agreement. His name does not show up anywhere. We in OPP will perceive him to be one of the peace spoilers who has intermingled in so many other parties’ affairs,” Majongdit stated.

Mayen accused Elia of overreaching his political role and manipulating the peace agreement for personal or political advantage.

He stated that Elia’s recent appointments were illegitimate and harmful to the spirit of the agreement.

“Actually, with the recent appointment of the 31 members, appointing seven members, and he called them their national agenda, their representing national agenda! From what portion of the ratio does this come from?” he inquired.

The head of the OPP also strongly rejected Elia’s appointment of a new secretary general to the committee, stating it was done without proper consultation or legal basis.

“The appointment of Lech as a secretary general to the committee… is rejected totally by the OPP,” he said.

He further urged for the restructuring of the committee “genuinely,” noting that “the parties’ leaders are the ones to nominate their leaders,” and vowed to “put spoilers to shame before South Sudanese” if interference continues.
