The Minister of Cabinet Affairs and rapporteur of the Tumaini Peace delegation, Martin Elia, has dismissed rumors circulating on social media claiming he was removed from the peace talks.
Speaking to Radio Miraya on Monday, Martin Elia Lomuro clarified that the rumors were baseless and part of a broader disinformation campaign.
“We have agreed that in the course of negotiations, we should refrain from engaging in the media to avoid issues that might jeopardize the peace process. This press is essentially to alleviate the concerns of our citizens and our people, who know that we have come here to negotiate peacefully and to negate the negative social media campaign.
Elia emphasized his trust in chief mediator Lazarus Sumbeiywo, describing him as a respected and responsible peace facilitator, adding that it is inconceivable that someone like him would expel a senior minister from the delegation. These rumors are false and intended to undermine public trust in the government,” Elia stated.
Elia urged citizens to disregard the propaganda, which he believes is aimed at dividing the delegation and eroding hope in the peace process.
“We will not be drawn into negotiating in social media or jeopardizing the process of social media. We came with a clear directive from the president that we should take back peace, and that is our focus. So I hope I have made it clear that I am here and here in full force as the rapporteur of the delegation, so if you don’t believe it, see it for yourself,” he said.
On Sunday there were rumors on social media that Gen. Lazaro Sumbeiywo, the Tumaini Chief Mediator, kicked out Martin Elia Lomuro for talking arrogantly and insulting people from all sides.
