The National Examination Council (NEC) has announced the dates for the Certificate of Primary Education and Secondary Schools’ nationwide examination on Thursday.

Martin Tako, Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction, announced in a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters in Juba that the CPE exam will take place nationwide beginning on Monday, November 18th, and ending on Friday, November 22nd.

On behalf of the South Sudan National Examination Council and my own behalf, I take this opportunity to inform the candidates, parents, and stakeholders that all processes of the 2024 Examinations have been put in place and the examination administrations in the country. CPE exams start on Monday, 18th November 2024, and end by Friday, 22nd November 2024,” Tako stated.

Tako said 78,859 candidates, including 43,188 males and 35,671 females were registered to take the primary school exams in 1,814 schools spread across 520 locations in South Sudan.

He stated that there are 3,613 more candidates registered in 2024 than there were in 2023 (69,455), which is a 7.5 percent rise.

For secondary education, Tako revealed that the Certification of Secondary Education (CSE) exams will start on December 2nd, 2024, and run until December 11th, 2024.

He emphasized that a total of 48,484 candidates—19,993 girls and 28,551 males—have enrolled to take the secondary school examinations at 525 institutions across the country.

According to Tako, the number of candidates registered with the examination secretariat increased by 9,404, or 13.5 percent, as compared to 44,871 in 2023.

He added, “This indicates an impressive result of government efforts to put children in schools and retain and transition them to the next levels of education. It is therefore my hope and humble prayer to Almighty God that the registered candidates will have the health and safety to reach the appointed dates and do their exams without any complication.”

Tako further appealed to supervisors, invigilators, security, and police to uphold the integrity of the examination processes.
