At least more than 100 South Sudanese nationals were arrested by the police in Khartoum, Sudan on Thursday.

Bol Ley, a member of Parliament Representing Mayom County in the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA), told King Media on Friday that the stranded South Sudanese were apprehended and imprisoned in the Omdurman neighborhood.

He urged the Sudanese government to release the arrested South Sudanese individuals in Khartoum, noting that such actions breach diplomatic relations.

“Yesterday [Thursday] there was an arrest that took place in the Sudanese capital, Omdurman. More than 100 South Sudanese people were collected and put into police custody. The first call actually in Omdurman correctly called this,” Ley stated.

Ley accused the Sudanese army of continuing to mistreat and imprisoned South Sudanese citizens stranded in Khartoum for no apparent cause.

“This unrefuted incident, South Sudanese residing in Sudan are really facing a lot of difficulties. Sudanese authorities arrest them, torturing them and maiming them. Without any clear evidence,” he said.

He further urged the Sudanese government not to arrest South Sudanese stuck in Sudan illegally.

“And I therefore request that the authorities refrain from the illegal arrest of South Sudanese refugees inside Sudan,” he stressed.

The South Sudanese trapped in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan continue to undergo unlawful torture and detention by the Sudanese army, as they are presumed to be loyal to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Between January 11 and 15, 2025, armed groups affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) were reported to have killed 29 South Sudanese in Wad Medani, the capital of Sudan’s Al Jazira State.

Footage circulating on social media purportedly showed soldiers shooting South Sudanese citizens after the SAF reclaimed the area from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In one video, troops were seen pushing a young man from a bridge and continuously shot at him as he tumbles into the ocean.
