South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir, met with the Minister of General Education, Awut Deng Acuil, on Friday to discuss strategies for replenishing the country’s educational system.
During the meeting, Acuil briefed President Kiir on the educational sector’s successes and issues, as well as the efforts being carried out to improve the country’s education system.
She apprised the president on the marking of national secondary school examinations, stating that it was done in a safe and correct manner so that pupils received their results fairly across the country.
On his part, President Kiir lauded the report and instructed the Ministry to continue in its efforts towards uplifting the education system, stressing that education is the development of the nation.
The meeting also reiterated the need for recovering educational lands currently under illegal occupation.
Acuil further noted that the ministry has embarked on measures to recover the lost lands that are important in expanding education facilities to enable more South Sudanese children to access education.
The education lapse in South Sudan demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the country’s socioeconomic difficulties through education, which will enable the country’s youth to break free from poverty and underdevelopment.
President Kiir’s concept for a revamped educational system centered on empowering young people offers a glimpse of hope for a brighter future as the country navigates the difficult terrain of restoration.
