On Tuesday, President Salva Kiir officiated the 8th Governor’s Forum in Juba, urging South Sudanese leaders to work towards achieving lasting peace in the country.
Speaking at the 8th Governors Forum at Freedom Hall, President Kiir emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in establishing long-term peace.
He underlined that solving the country’s difficulties necessitates collaborative action and meaningful conversation at all levels of government.
Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to restore total peace in the nation, underlining that his recent decision to reconfigure the Government delegation to the Nairobi Tumaini peace Initiative aimed at expeditiously ending the peace talks due to restart soon.
He instructed Governors and Chief Administrators to strengthen state economies by providing jobs for young people, emphasizing innovation in attracting investments, igniting economic activity, and fostering entrepreneurship among citizens.
The head of state also resented the country’s current dilemma, caused by persistent flooding in several sections of the country.
He called on government agencies, state leaders, and international development partners to coordinate efforts to provide prompt help to flood-affected areas across the country.
The forum, themed “Forging Sustainable Peace: Committed to the Extended R-ARCSS Transition,” allows leaders and stakeholders to share ideas and plans for reconstructing the country.
The week-long event brought together Governors from the country’s ten states, Chief Administrators from the three administrative areas, international organizations, UN agencies, and the diplomatic community to strengthen national cohesion and tackle important national concerns.
