South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has tasked the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Hussein Abdelbagi, to spearheading an initiative to boost food production across the country.

Kiir issued this directive on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony for several newly appointed government officials including; Tut Gatluak Manime, South Sudan’s Ambassador to South Sudan, and Rabi Mojong Emmanuel, who joins the Civil Aviation Authority.

He empathized on the urgent need to advance agriculture and attain sustainable food production mechanisms as the only remedial approach to the country’s economic recovery agenda.

The head of the state also promised the new officials full support of his administration as they embark on their respective duties.

In a series of sweeping decrees announced on the state-owned SSBCC on February 10, 2025, Kiir relieved Abdelbagi from his previous position as Vice President for the Service Cluster, appointing Josephine Lagu as his successor.

In the same surprising decrees, Kiir then appointed Abdelbagi as the Minister of Agriculture, replacing Josephine Joseph Lagu from the same SSOA alliance.
