The security situation has been heightened in Yambio, Western Equatoria State following the shooting of one man and the injury of another along the Saura Yambio road. The attack took place as two men were traveling from Yambio to Nzara County at around 7:00 AM on Monday. Upon reaching Saura Boma, the pair were ambushed by armed assailants, who shot at them, causing severe injuries.
The Acting Commissioner of Police for Western Equatoria State, Maj. Gen. Samuel Tiep confirmed that the victims were rushed to Yambio State Hospital immediately after the attack. Despite medical efforts, one of the men succumbed to his injuries at around 11:00 AM.
“Yeah, in fact one has died during the treatment because he sustained a very severe injury and then he died around 11:59 am.
In response to the attack, law enforcement swiftly mobilized, deploying organized forces to the area to trace the attackers. According to the police, the assailants also looted two motorbikes from the victims before fleeing the scene. Gen. Tiep described the perpetrators as “unknown gunmen” since no arrests have been made and their identities remain unclear.

As news of the incident spread, residents in the vicinity of Saura Boma were seen fleeing their homes in fear for their safety. However, Gen. Tiep reassured the public, urging those who had evacuated to return to their homes as the situation was now under control.
Authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the attack and are working to identify the assailants involved in the crime.
