The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has vehemently rubbished media reports claiming that Lt. Gen. Garang Ayii Akol, Co-Chair of the Joint Defense Board (JDB) and Director General of Procurements at the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs (MoD & VAs), has been arrested in Juba.

This denial comes after rumors on social media that Gen. Akol was apprehended at the SSPDF’s military headquarters in Bilham.

However, in a statement extended to King Media on Thursday, Brig, Gen. Samuel Chan Mut, SSOA Representative to the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), refuted the allegations, labeling it “baseless rumors.”

This is untrue and reflect only a kind of a baseless rumor,” Brig. Gen. Chan stated.

He stressed that Akol is actively carrying out his duties without any hindrance.

“Lt. Gen. Garang Ayii Akol Agany is currently discharging his duties normally with SSPDF without any form of obstacles or impediments,” he said.
