The Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, Gloria Nyoka Joseph, resumed her duties today following a suspension she received nearly a week ago. Her resumption was seen in a statement released on Thursday by the institution. Nyoka was suspended for alleged resource mismanagement and undermining of the minister.

The issue, which arose on June 13, was resolved swiftly by the concerned authorities within the Government of South Sudan.

Although the exact nature of the matter was not disclosed, its resolution has paved the way for Nyoka’s full reinstatement.

“The Administration of South Sudan National Bureau of Standards would like to notify all stakeholders and the public that Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph has resumed her duties and functions with effect from 19th June 2025,” said Ruot Dobuol, Director General for Administration and Finance at SSNBS.

Nyoka’s return is seen as a move to stabilize leadership at the SSNBS tasked with safeguarding public health, consumer rights, and the national economy by regulating product standards and curbing the flow of substandard and counterfeit goods into the market.

SSNBS reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its mandate without compromise, noting that the agency remains “dedicated to the protection of consumers, safeguarding the health and safety of all citizens and the national economy.”

Nyoka, who has been at the forefront of reforming the country’s standards framework, is credited with strengthening enforcement mechanisms and pushing for regional harmonization of product quality standards across East Africa.

As South Sudan continues to grapple with regulatory challenges in the commercial sector, many stakeholders hope that Nyoka’s return will reinvigorate stalled initiatives and boost investor confidence in the country’s commitment to quality assurance.
