At least 18 people have reportedly died, and three others survived after an aircraft carrying 21 passengers crashed in Unity Oilfield on Wednesday, according to officials.
The ill-fated airplane took off from Unity Oilfield at around 10:30 am for Juba but crashed just a few minutes later, approximately 500 meters from the airstrip, leaving a devastating sight.
Gatwick Biphal, Unity State’s Information Minister, told King Media in an interview that the three passengers who survived are in critical condition and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Yes, thank you, King News. This afternoon at exactly 10:30 am this morning, there was a plane crash at the airport. Just 500 meters away from the airport. Twenty-one people were on board, including the crew. 18 people are now confirmed dead, and three survivors are in critical condition at the clinic as of now. The plane came from Juba this morning, and it loaded the people. When it was departing to Juba, that’s when the accident happened,” Biphal stated.
He said the cause of the plane’s crash is unknown, emphasizing that more information will be given as soon as it is available.
