At least two people were killed in shocking incidents on Wednesday night by unknown assailants in Mayom County, Unity State, according to an official.

Sacristan Zoal Wal, Ex-Joknyang Declaration Spokesperson, in an interview told King Media revealed that the first incident involved a truck traveling from Mayom County to Yida County.

He said the vehicle was attacked by unknown gunmen on the way, killing one of the drivers as others managed to flee.

“Yeah, there is an incident that happened overnight here in Mayom County. One of the escorts, the truck escort who used to escort vehicles from Mayom to Yida, was shot dead on the way to Yida. The assailants were not found, but they were believed by the locals in that particular area as unknown gunmen,” Col. Wal said.

In a separate incident that same night, a young girl was tragically killed by her brothers while outside near their cattle camp in Tumor.

Her brothers, startled by a figure moving in the dark, reacted with fatal consequences when she failed to respond to their inquiries.

“So, not only that, also, that same night, it was yesterday night, at the herds of cattle in Tumor, there was also a girl who was shot dead by the brothers. The reason behind that was that she went behind the herds of the cattle and when the brothers went to see what was going on under the dark places nearing the herds, they saw her and she was not clearly seen. So, when they asked for her to express herself and to introduce herself to them, she could not reply,” he explained.

According to Wal, one of the brothers, in a state of uncertainty and fear, grabbed a gun, cocked it, and shot her dead.

However, he underlined that the government has taken action, dispatching officials to Kaikang to investigate the shooting incident involving the truck escort, adding that the brothers who killed their sister have been taken to Mayom for further investigation.
