The Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs for the UN Mission in South Sudan, Guang Cong, reaffirmed UNMISS’s pledge to assist in the establishment of mobile courts in underprivileged regions in the country.

Cong made this statement Thursday at a High-Level Coordination Forum in Juba, which was presided over by Monday Semaya, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

He stated that the number of courts would be increased to improve justice and peace in South Sudan.

Cong also revealed a quick effort to improve the Electoral Commission at the state level.

However, Semaya reiterated the South Sudan government’s steadfast determination to foster an atmosphere favorable to UN agencies’ successful aid operations.

He stressed the importance of this relationship in improving the lives of South Sudanese civilians.

The Deputy Minister further expressed deep gratitude to UNMISS for its critical assistance to the population and urged the UN to continue providing key services in collaboration with relevant government ministries.

The forum, which focused on improving cooperation between the Government of South Sudan and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), addressed critical issues concerning peace and efficient service delivery in the country, emphasizing the two organizations’ shared interests.
