The Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster, Rebecca Nyandeng, on Monday briefed President Salva Kiir at the State House in Juba on her recent visit to Uganda, where she held talks with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
According to a statement from the president’s office, the meeting included the country’s current political and economic challenges.
Nyandeng stated that her meeting with Museveni in Kampala focused on enhancing bilateral relations and areas of common interest between South Sudan and Uganda to support regional peace.
The head of state and the VP. Nyandeng reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to advancing the country’s peace, unity, and progressive development agenda.
They also emphasized the necessity of fostering internal cooperation among leaders and citizens to secure national peace and strengthen South Sudan’s regional diplomatic connections.
In a press conference in March, Minister of Information and government spokesperson Michael Makuei, revealed that VP. Nyandeng had fled the country and was nowhere to be found.
Makuei was answering a query on the FVP. Dr. Machar’s fate as he’s still under house arrest, saying “things are bad, even Mama Rebecca has run away from Juba.”
This generated major questions about the VP. Nyandeng, on the other hand, was reportedly placed under house arrest in Kampala in early April, according to social media rumors.
Nevertheless, on April 24, 2025, the family denied the rumors regarding her arrest in Uganda.
Nyandeng departed from Juba International Airport on 27 March for Nairobi en route to Dubai for medical treatment.
However, the reason for the nearly four-week delay in reaching her destination was not adequately clarified.
