Women from different groups across Yambio joined hands on Wednesday to clean the Yambio State Hospital in a community service initiative organized by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in partnership with UN Women. The initiative, which brought together women from various organizations and neighborhoods, aimed to promote cleanliness, unity, and love among women in Western Equatoria State (WES).

Speaking during the initiative, Hon. Anna Tuna, the Speaker of Western Equatoria state legislative assembly, praised the initiative, describing it as a sign of love, unity, and commitment among women. She encouraged women to continue supporting one another in community-building activities.

“When women work together, they bring positive change to our homes. Let us continue to show love and unity. I encourage you, women, to stop tribalism; let’s support all women regardless of their tribe. Our tribe should be women, and let’s continue with this spirit, not only today but in all that we do,” said the Hon. Speaker.

The Chairperson of Women’s Union in Western Equatoria State, Mrs Foizia Abasi Barbara, applauded the effort, calling it a “great initiative” that should continue.

“This activity has shown the power of women when they come together. Let it not stop here; we need to make it a regular practice,” Abasi emphasized.

A representative of the Kuzze Women group, Jenty Alison, extended gratitude to YWCA and UN Women for their continued support in empowering women and promoting community development.

“We thank YWCA and UN Women for organizing such an event. Their effort in uniting women and improving our community is highly appreciated, and I call upon all women to come out when they are called for this kind of activity,” said Jenty.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Dream Warriors women’s group,  Jackie  Kuku Loveth, encouraged all participants to make the cleaning campaign a monthly activity rather than a one-day event.

“I call upon the organizers that this program of cleaning should not stop here today, let it be a monthly practice so that we keep our environment clean and healthy,” Jackie urged.

The hospital cleaning day concluded with joy and renewed commitment among the women to continue working together for a cleaner and healthier Yambio.

Yambio State Hospital is the only state referral hospital in Yambio, serving as the main healthcare facility for the region. It provides essential medical services and responds to critical and emergency cases for people across Western Equatoria State. Despite limited resources, Yambio Hospital plays a vital role in delivering life-saving care and supporting the overall health system in the area.
