The Mayor of Yambio Town Municipality, John Singira, has addressed the unexpected presence of organized forces deployed across key roads and neighborhoods of the town, assuring residents that the deployment was part of routine government security measures to ensure the safety and security of the public.

On the morning of Friday, residents of Yambio awoke to find a strong military presence in the streets, with forces stationed at various strategic locations across the town. This sudden appearance of security personnel led to confusion and panic among the local population, as there was no prior warning or explanation provided.

The situation left many wondering about the reasons behind the sudden and visible surge in security measures.

Speaking to King News on Friday, 13th Dec 2024, Mayor Singira explained that the deployment of the forces was not due to any imminent threat or crisis but rather part of the government’s ongoing efforts to monitor and secure the town.

This morning, people saw organized forces on the roads and, understandably, there are some concerns, but let me clarify. The forces were not deployed to spread fear or respond to any specific emergency. Their presence is part of the government’s routine exercise to monitor the situation in the town and ensure the security of everyone here. There is no insecurity in Yambio. He said

The Mayor emphasized that this deployment was a preventive measure, aiming to monitor the town for any potential threats and to safeguard the lives and property of residents. He further reassured the public that the presence of the forces was a standard procedure aimed at maintaining order and not an indication of any unusual security situation.

The forces did not come out to demonstrate or to respond to any disturbance. Their purpose is solely to maintain peace and monitor the situation in the town. Yambio is peaceful and there is no immediate threat. These forces are here to ensure the safety of the municipality”. Singira clarified

Despite the initial panic among the residents, the mayor urged calm and understanding. He explained that the government’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the well-being of its citizens, and this kind of routine deployment is part of a broader effort to prevent potential unrest.

The Mayor’s statement also sought to quell rumors that had been circulating in the town regarding potential security threats. He reassured the people that the town was under no threat and that the forces deployed were merely carrying out their duties as part of a larger, ongoing effort to ensure the safety and stability of the region.

The town of Yambio, like many areas in South Sudan, has faced periods of insecurity in the past, often linked to sporadic violence.

Yambio residents slowly returned to their normal activities throughout the day, the situation appeared to stabilize, with no reports of disturbances or unrest.
