Former City Review, VOA reporter Matia Samuel Found dead in Yambio river

The media fraternity in South Sudan is mourning the death of renowned journalist Matia Samuel, whose passing has plunged colleagues, friends, and the wider public into deep sorrow.

Matia Samuel, a former reporter with City Review Newspaper and a contributor to the Voice of America (VOA), was found dead on Thursday morning near the Nakpangau River, close to Yambio Resort Hotel in Yambio town, Western Equatoria State.

According to eyewitnesses, Matia was first seen near the river earlier in the day before his body was later spotted floating on the water.

Residents and local authorities later retrieved the body from the river.

However, the exact circumstances and cause of his death remain unclear.

Matia was widely known for his dedication to journalism and his commitment to informing the public, earning respect across the media community.

His death has raised concern among journalists, with many calling for a thorough investigation to determine what led to the tragic incident.
