President Salva Kiir Mayardit has tasked the SPLM’s senior leaders with spearheading efforts to reunify and energize its membership ahead of the 2026 general elections.
peaking during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed SPLM officials on Tuesday, Kiir called on the leadership to secure another popular mandate from the people of South Sudan, similar to that achieved in the 2010 elections.
He urged them to revitalize the party, strengthen its grassroots networks, and ensure the fair delivery of basic services as a way to restore the founding principles of the movement.
The head of the state further appealed to party members to actively mobilize support within their constituencies, reminding them that the SPLM must remain a political force rooted in the aspirations of the people and committed to fulfilling its historical mission.
Among those sworn in were Dr. James Wani Igga, who assumes the role of First Deputy Chairman, and Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, appointed as Secretary General.
Senior party leaders described the occasion as a strategic turning point, signaling a rejuvenated resolve to rebuild the SPLM’s political base, promote inclusivity, and preserve its influence in shaping South Sudan’s democratic direction.
