Concerned by mounting pressure on public health services, Unity State Governor, Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil, on Tuesday inspected Bentiu State Hospital to get a raw picture of the situation at the hospital.

Moving through wards and key departments, the governor took stock of the facility’s condition while engaging directly with hospital administrators on the realities affecting patient care.

The visit exposed the daily struggles faced by both health workers and patients, signifying the urgent need for intervention in the state’s healthcare system.

Unity State’s Health Minister, Jal Puok, said the hospital continues to operate under pressure despite support from partners such as MSF, UNICEF, and other humanitarian organizations.

“We have shared with His Excellency the progress made with the support of our partners, especially MSF and UNICEF, but there are still serious gaps that need immediate attention,” Puok said.

He highlighted persistent shortages of medical supplies and non-functional equipment as key challenges affecting service delivery.

“One of the major issues we are facing is the lack of essential medical supplies, and some critical equipment is not functioning. For example, our X-ray machine is currently not working, which limits our ability to diagnose patients properly,” he added.

Puok, however, expressed optimism following the governor’s visit, noting that government intervention could help restore services.

“With the support of the state government and the leadership of His Excellency, we believe these challenges will be addressed. We are hopeful that equipment like the X-ray machine will be repaired and services will resume fully,” he said.

Governor Manytuil reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare, pledging practical steps to strengthen service delivery and expand access to quality health services across Unity State.
