South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed Warrap State Governor Lt. Gen. Magok Magok, just three months after appointing him.

Kiir did not provide any reason for Magok’s dismissal on presidential decrees read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Wednesday.

Magok was replaced by Wek Agoth, a former chief of state protocol and acting chief administrator in the Office of the President.

Warrap State, President Kiir’s home state, has experienced recurring violence, including revenge killings and cattle raids, which continue to fuel instability in the region.

Magok is the latest in a string of short-lived governors in Warrap State. He had replaced Francis Marial Abur, who was dismissed by President Kiir on February 17, 2025.

President Kiir’s constant reshuffling of governors and senior officials, frequently within months of their appointment, has caused anxiety among the remaining state leaders, many of whom are now uncertain about their own tenure.
