President Salva Kiir on Wednesday swore in new government officials and called for unity and renewed commitment to sustaining peace across the country.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the State House in Juba, Kiir underlined that the success of South Sudan’s peace process depends on collective responsibility, cooperation, and a firm rejection of conflict.
“We have all witnessed what war does. We believe we should stop here. Then we must find a way of getting solutions. And we must work together to solve our problems,” Kiir said.
Among those sworn in include Peter Chaleman Cawach as Presidential Advisor for Peace, a position seen as critical in advancing reconciliation efforts and strengthening dialogue, particularly in conflict-affected regions.
Joseph Nguen Monytuil as Governor of Unity State, returning to a role he previously held.
His reappointment comes at a time when stability and economic recovery remain key priorities in the state.
The event further saw the swearing-in of three deputy governors: Isaac Luka Manga, William Gatjang Giing, and Karlo Andrew Akwo Ajert, in a move reflecting ongoing efforts to implement the peace agreement through inclusive governance.
The head of the state directed the newly appointed officials to prioritize service delivery, cooperation, and peacebuilding in their respective roles, stressing the need for leaders to work together across political and regional lines.
“It is our responsibility to hold each other’s hands and move together towards peace and lasting development for our people,” he added.
Taban Deng Gai, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, echoed the President’s call, urging the officials to place peacebuilding and reconciliation at the center of their work, while also highlighting the need to remove barriers to trade such as road checkpoints.
Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime, called for intensified peace efforts in Unity State and Upper Nile, including strengthening relations with neighboring communities.
Meanwhile, Akol Paul Koordit urged the officials to serve with integrity and work collaboratively, while Stephen Par Kuol reaffirmed commitment to advancing the peace agreement through cooperation among political actors.
