President Salva Kiir on Wednesday met with Taban Deng Gai, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, to review progress on key national infrastructure projects and tackle challenges affecting implementation.
The meeting comes just a week after Deng said he had taken nearly a year without meeting the president.
According to the President’s office, Deng updated Kiir on the ongoing and planned road projects, including major corridors such as Pagak–Maiwut–Mathiang and Paloch, as well as strategic roads in Equatoria like Juba–Lobonok, Juba–Yei–Kaya, and Maridi.
In Bahr el Ghazal, projects including Wau–Raja and Burumadina roads were highlighted, with emphasis on coordinated efforts by national and partner companies.
The meeting was also attended by Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs.
Kiir noted that infrastructure remains a cornerstone of economic growth, national unity, and the delivery of services.
He directed the Vice President to accelerate project implementation, address bottlenecks, and ensure the Infrastructure Cluster functions efficiently to meet the needs of South Sudanese citizens.
Beyond roads, the Vice President also proposed revitalizing the Agricultural Bank, a move the President acknowledged could support financing, boost agricultural productivity, and help curb inflationary pressures.
The meeting further stressed the government’s commitment to strengthening national infrastructure as a key driver of long-term stability, economic development, and improved connectivity across South Sudan.
