On Wednesday, security forces in Tonj South County, Warrap State, intercepted a large cache of illegal ammunition and detained two suspects at the Bab-Cok security checkpoint along the Wau-Tonj road.
According to the County Commissioner’s press unit, the seizure, which included 1,688 rounds of live ammunition, was the result of intensified surveillance operations aimed at curbing the flow of weapons fueling communal violence in the region.
“The alertness and dedication of our security personnel have directly prevented these munitions from reaching criminals and civilians intent on causing harm,” said Col. John Ayitiak Warwien, Commissioner of Tonj South County.
“This seizure is evidence that illegal firearms remain in high demand, and each interception weakens the capacity of violent groups to attack our communities,” he added.
Two suspects identified as residents of Bor from Jonglei State, are currently in custody and awaiting further investigation.
Commissioner Warwien stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring a safe environment where lawful trade can flourish without the threat of armed violence.
He urged citizens to steer clear of the illegal arms trade, calling it “a harmful activity that brings only sorrow and loss to society.”
