South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir, and his counterpart, Sudanese Army leader Gen. Adel Fattah Al-Burhan, met in Juba on Wednesday and reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing peaceful means to end Sudan’s protracted conflict.
During the meeting, the duo discussed ways to enhance regional peace and stability through constructive dialogue and mutual cooperation.
The two leaders also expressed their firm commitment to restoring peace in the region, stressing that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable solutions to the current conflict.
After the meeting, Majak Philemon, Acting Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, stated that the two leaders focused on several critical issues, including the resumption of oil flow, economic cooperation, cross-border security, and cultural exchanges.
These matters were identified as vital components for strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
However, Hussein Elamin, Sudan’s Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Al-Burhan briefed President Kiir on the current situation in Sudan as the war rages on.
The meeting underscored the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the challenges facing Sudan, South Sudan, and their neighboring states.
The quest for putting an end to the ongoing conflict in Sudan continues as Al-Burhan now eyes on South Sudan to solve their conflict. International and regional peace initiatives have attempted to bring the two warring groups of Sudan together for amicable discussions but have failed since neither party has faith in the mediators.
President Kiir is now the ray of hope since he is familiar with Sudan and may be able to resolve the crisis.
