A coalition of Sudanese political parties, civil society groups, and armed movements on Friday convened in Nairobi for high-level discussions aimed at charting a new path toward ending Sudan’s devastating conflict and restoring stability in the country.
The gathering, held under the banner of the “Sudanese Declaration of Principles Forces for Building a New Homeland,” brought together opposition leaders, armed movement commanders, and national figures seeking a unified political solution to the ongoing war.
Speakers at the opening session included former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who chairs the Sumoud Alliance, alongside Sudan Liberation Army leader Abdelwahid Mohamed al-Nur and Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party-Original chairman Ali al-Rayah al-Sanhouri.
According to Sudan Liberation Army spokesman Mohamed Abdelrahman, the talks are focused on Sudan’s worsening political and humanitarian crisis, the continuation of the war, and ways to strengthen the coalition’s declaration aimed at building a new national consensus.
The alliance previously signed a Declaration of Principles in Nairobi in December 2025, insisting that Sudan’s conflict cannot be resolved militarily.
The declaration urged both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, along with their allies, to commit to an internationally backed peace roadmap proposed by Quad countries in September 2025.
Participants at the Nairobi forum emphasized the need for inclusive dialogue and greater coordination among Sudanese political and social forces, saying only a broad national consensus can end the war and pave the way for democracy, peace, and long-term stability.
Among the prominent attendees are Sudanese Congress Party chairman Omar al-Digair, National Umma Party Secretary-General Al-Wathiq al-Barir, SPLM-N Revolutionary Democratic Current leader Yasir Arman, Federal Gathering Executive Office chairman Babiker Faisal, Ba’ath Party-National chairman Kamal Boulad, and Professionals and Unions Coordination chairman Taha Osman.
