The Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) has dismissed reports alleging that its forces in Unity State, near the border with Sudan’s Kordofan State, were involved in clashes with the SSPDF, backed by Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

This comes after certain media outlets reported that SPLA-IO forces in Garia engaged in a fierce battle with the SSPDF, while the RSF reportedly launched a coordinated assault on an elite SPLA-IO base in Pan Akuach, located south of Sudan’s oil-rich Heglig on June 2, 2025.

In a statement extended to King Media on Tuesday, SPLA-IO Division 4A Sector Commander, Maj. Gen. Turuk Khor firmly refuted the claims, labeling them baseless.

“The SPLA IO Sector came to know that there is a report circulating on social media that there was an attack on SPLA IO positions at the Garia border between South Sudan and Sudan by the SSPDF and their alliance, RSF. These reports are false and untrue,” Maj. Gen. Turuk Khor stated.

He stressed that there has been no fighting in Unity State, including Bentiu and the surrounding areas.

“There has been no fighting in Unity State, Bentiu, or its surrounding areas. Therefore, the SPLA IO base in Garia at the border with Sudan remains normal and secure,” he added.

Khor also urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to verify facts before concluding.

“The SPLA-IO Sector became aware of these false claims spreading online. We urge the public not to fall for propaganda,” he said.
